No.32 Waterfalls in Japan That I Want to Visit 10/22/2013
The Asahi Shimbun recently said, “ The season of autumn leaves will be coming soon. Trees in the background dyed red or yellow, with the scene of a pure white gushing waterfall is exceptional. We did audience research rankings of waterfalls full of charm that show the beauty of the four seasons”. According to it, the best waterfalls include:
1) ○ Kegon Fall or Kegon waterfall near Nikko( Tochigi Pref.)
2) ○ Nachi Fall ( Wakayama )
3) × Fukuroda Fall ( Ibaraki )
4) ○ Shiraito or Otodome Fall , Shiraito & Waterfall of sound stop ( Shizuoka)
5) × Oshinkoshin Fall ( Hokkaido )
6) ○ Akame 48 Falls ( Mie )
7) ○ Yourou Fall ( Gifu )

( The ○ mark is where I have been. )
Another waterfall I have been is the magnificent waterfall ‘Shomyo Fall’
( in Toyama ). It is a beautiful waterfall unforgettable for me. They say the three major waterfalls in the world are Niagara Falls, Victoria Falls, and Iguazu. I went to see Niagara Falls in 1979. I hope to go and see the magnificent Iguazu and Victoria Falls. Also, Yosemite Falls is the tallest waterfall in America and it was the most beautiful waterfall I’ve ever seen. The Japanese top 3 in this ranking are three of the Great Falls of Japan. As I’ve said, Nachi Falls is an object of worship that is associated with Kumano Nachi Taisha Shrine and Seigantoji Temple. As you know, Japanese waterfalls are often coupled with faith. There are more than 800 falls in this country and the reason why there are so many is that we have lots of rain in Japan. While it is well-known in Kansai that the contrast of foliage and such a beautiful waterfall like in Minoo is wonderful , Nunobikinotaki fall of Kobe is beautiful in the green of spring.
Well, full bloom is coming soon. Let's go to see the waterfall and maple trees in Minoo this autumn .
