［No.36］ Do You Have Confidence in Yourself or Any "Power" ? 11/19/2013
"Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts Exhibition of French Painting Over 300 Years" is opening now in Kobe City Museum of Art. Mrs. Kikuko Iwai, who is a worldwide professional painting restorer, is in charge of checking paintings in this exhibition. The restoration of paintings is a very humble job that requires patience. The other day the Asahi Shinbun had an interesting column about whether she attributed confidence in her work to any "power". They asked her to rank 10 types of "power".
Here are her answers:
1）運 luck 2）気力や体力Elan or stamina 3）好奇心curiosity 4）疑問力question force 5）分析力や洞察力insight and analysis power 6）独創性やひらめき、応用力creativity, perseverance and applied skills 7）決断力decision 8）行動力ability to take action
9）プラス思考positive thinking 10）持続力や忍耐力sustainability of inspiration and perseverance
“Coordination and language skills will follow later if you need them. In addition, in our work, I will continue to emphasize, its’ much better to continue to respect pictures."
If I do the ranking looking back on my life, I would say:
1) curiosity 2) Elan 3) determination 4）analysis and insight 5）question power
6) inspiration and creativity, applied skills 7) ability to take action 8) language skills 9）sustainability or perseverance 10) positive thinking
I do not believe too much in fortune-telling and "luck" but I think effort is important. I may be energetic, but it seems weak for me to compare myself
to others. My curiosity has interested me very much in new things until now and I have always had a strong curiosity among people. I have constantly been living fully in a positive manner. But I think to myself it may be that I am lacking a little perseverance. It is necessary for language skills now, but I needed less in my work. Unfortunately English was not necessary in my job. Now, our future world must be actively global and I think foreign language will be an important force, for jobs and education as well as for tourists’ foreign conversation. Internationalization will increase, like it or not, and we cannot go to live in the future life thinking inwardly like until now
